2-3 months = a few days?
On Tuesday, we had a visit from our social worker to update our home study. We were thinking about extending our age range from 6months to 1 year, to 6months to 2 years. We were told by our social worker that she felt that we were nearing a referral. "I'm thinking 2 to 3 months, so I wouldn't change anything!" So we listened to her advice.
Wednesday night, a friend of ours shot a video of us explaining our heart for adoption, and how our church could pray for us as we "wait for a referral." I was quite nervous. I had never been interviewed on camera! :) The video would then be shared at Praise & Worship night at our church on Friday.
Thursday morning, as I worked out on my elliptical machine in the "baby's room" and listened to our local christian radio station talk about compassion international. The dj's were going on and on about caring for the orphans. I couldn't help but think of all the kids in foreign countries who have lost a parent, or both parents, to a disease or illness that could easily be treated, but they lacked the money for. I kept thinking about all the little ones waiting for families as well. I kept thinking about how I wanted to impact the world, by caring for an "orphan." My mind goes on rabbit trails all the time, so this wasn't unusual for me. I also thought about how we were a bit past nine months in the waiting stage for a referral. "I would have a baby by now, if she were biological.."
Thursday night at the salon, we were pretty busy. I told my coworker about how we could be receiving a referral in a few months. We were both excited about this news. Maybe Phil and I would be traveling in the fall/winter to pick up our little girl? 5:06, I check my cell phone for any text messages. I had just missed a phone call, and a text from Phil saying "we got a referral!" I shouted across the salon to my coworker "Phil just sent me a text, we got a referral!!" We were both in shock. I called Phil, and I kept saying "Seriously?? Seriously?? That's crazy!" I'm not too sure how the whole entire conversation went, but he told me a little bit about our referral. He also told me that we would be receiving her photos and paperwork through my email account.. and that he was almost home from work. Luckily my coworker had a smart phone, and I was able to view her photos! She is beautiful!! It was a long night, and I was super excited! I wasn't able to talk to Phil until after 10pm since he had praise & worship practice at our church. I spent hours on the phone with my mom, just talking about how excited we were!
Friday morning at work was a bit of a blur. I do remember calling our agency to let them know that we were interested in the "next step." So we were given a go to take her medical paperwork to a doctor for review. I called a local pediatrician office, and was told that the doctor who reviews adoption paperwork, was out of the office until Monday. Friday was a busy day for us. After work, and a short time of relaxing at home, we went to church. Praise and worship was amazing! I was in such a whirlwind of shock, and joy! Our church showed our video, and then shared that we had received a referral. The church prayed for us, and a second couple adopting. After the service, church visitors blessed us with donations and bought a few paintings that Phil had done.
I spent all of yesterday, driving all over Lancaster.. to gather various documents for our home study update! I also received a phone call from the pediatrician office this morning, asking me to bring in the medical paperwork. The lady in the office, Pat, was shocked when she saw me in the office shortly after we had hung up the phone. "Wow, that was quick!" I just smiled. So now we're waiting on the pediatrician to call us back after she takes a look at the medical records! :)
God is good!! Pray for us as we continue this journey!!
Update: We have an appointment on Friday for the pediatrician to review the paperwork!!!
